What Is Hifz?
Hifz (حفظ) means “to preserve” or “to memorize” in Arabic. A Hafiz (male) or Hafiza (female) is someone who has memorized the complete Quran — all 30 Juz, 114 Surahs, and 6,236 verses — entirely by heart. This is one of the most honored achievements in Islam, and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.”
Hifz is not reserved for children or full-time students. Adults memorize the Quran every day — with the right method, the right teacher, and consistent effort. Our Hifz Program Structure
New Memorization (Sabaq)
Each session begins with your new memorization — the fresh verses you have prepared since your last class. Your teacher listens carefully, corrects any errors in pronunciation or Tajweed, and confirms the new portion is solid before it is added to your memorized bank. Typically, beginners memorize 3–5 lines per session; advanced students may memorize half a page or more.
Recent Revision (Sabqi)
The second component of every session is revision of recently memorized material — typically the last 7 days of memorization. This prevents the common problem of memorizing new material while forgetting what came before. Your teacher tracks exactly which pages you have covered and rotates revision systematically.
Old Revision (Manzil)
As your memorized Quran grows, periodic revision of older portions (Manzil) becomes essential. Your teacher schedules Manzil review sessions to ensure that everything you’ve memorized — from your very first Surah to your most recent — remains firmly retained. This is what separates students who truly become Hafiz from those who memorize and forget.
Can Adults Become Hafiz?
Yes — and many do. While children have the advantage of flexible schedules and highly plastic memory, adults bring powerful advantages of their own: motivation, discipline, emotional connection to the Quran, and the ability to understand what they are memorizing. Our adult Hifz students range from university students to working professionals to grandparents. The key is consistency — not age.
For adults with full-time jobs and family responsibilities, we recommend 3–5 sessions per week of 30–60 minutes each. At this pace, completing the full Quran typically takes 3–5 years. Many students choose to focus on specific Juz — particularly Juz ‘Amma (the 30th Juz, which contains the most commonly recited short Surahs) — as a meaningful intermediate goal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know Tajweed before starting Hifz?
You should be able to read the Quran with basic Tajweed before starting a Hifz program — memorizing incorrectly and then correcting it is far harder than learning correctly from the start. If you are not yet reading confidently, we recommend starting with our Quran Reading course first, which typically takes 3–6 months. Your teacher will assess your readiness in the free trial session.
What if I already have some Quran memorized?
We can continue from where you are. Your teacher will assess your existing memorization in the trial session — checking both what you have memorized and the quality of your Tajweed — and then build a plan that incorporates revision of your existing memorization into the ongoing program.
How many sessions per week do I need?
A minimum of 3 sessions per week is required for meaningful Hifz progress. Five sessions per week is ideal. Daily practice between sessions — even 15–20 minutes of self-revision — is just as important as the sessions themselves. Your teacher will give you a clear daily practice plan to follow between classes.
